Went out for a drive with the family today. It's cool to live around the Great Lakes because you can take a lot of day trips and see things like this in just about any direction. This is the 30 Mile Point Lighthouse situated on Golden Hill State Park along the south shore of Lake Ontario in Niagara County, Western New York. There are many historic lighthouses in the area and I've had the opportunity to see a few of them. Why is it called 30 Mile Point Lighthouse? Well, from my understanding of naming, probably back when landmarks were named during the exploration of North America, it's named 30 mile point because it is 30 miles from the mouth of the Niagara River. If you travel west on the Canadian side of the border you will run into many creeks/rivers so named as well for their distance from the Niagara River. Anyway, this lighthouse was constructed in 1875.
All pictures taken with a Pentax *istDL and Sigma 24-135mm f2.8 lens. Exif information is available with each image. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
