Thanks, Daniel and The Barbarian!
I noticed the radioactive sign, too, and so took a picture of it. It said “Fallout Shelter”. According to wikipedia.org, “A fallout shelter is an enclosed space specially designed to protect occupants from radioactive debris or fallout resulting from a nuclear explosion. Many such shelters were constructed as civil defense measures during the Cold War.” I see many buildings in New York City mostly old brick or stone buildings with that sign. #10) ![]() |

I re-did #4 this time with Photomatix (it was DPHDR originally) to hopefully remove the red artifacts that Hards80 mentioned. I think they're still there.
I also tried re-doing it again in DPHDR and found mis-alignment wasn't the issue. The 7 images I used were nicely aligned. Could it be fringing? I tried using just one RAW file, too, for both Photomatix and DPHDR but wasn't happy with the results because with just one RAW file, either the window was blownout or the interior too dark. #11) ![]() |

Thanks, ronin2307!
I'm more of a Far Cry (I & II) addict but I've seen my kids play Resident Evil. Here are two more images from Resident Evil I mean the psych center. ![]() #12) Dead-end! ![]() #13) Ah, which way to go -- left or right? ![]() |

When I was growing up in the late 50's these were the types of precautions we were made aware of and advised to adhere to. Every kid in school knew where the nearest shelter was (usually in the school basement) in the event of an "event" and how to get there in an orderly fashion, without having to wait for his parents to come pick him up. Many new homes were built with these "Fallout or Bomb Shelter" provisions built into the basements here in the Northeast, and I am sure elsewhere in the country. Kind of a forgotten thing, but one many people are today revisiting and unfortunately, probably for good cause. ![]() Last edited by Strobe; Apr 27, 2010 at 1:19 PM. |

Hey VV ! You've done it again ! Another VERY interesting place to visit....
Looks like it is just "open" to waltz in and have a look around ? I am amazed it isn't habitated by some of the city's underground population ? It's cool that so much of the original stuff is still lying around.... Man, keep 'em coming.... I love this stuff ! ![]() |

vv,
Remarkable pictures. Scary. Yes, Resident Evil mood, Silent Hill and others. My consoles waking up from the drawer, hauting me with the pads Knew that they used electro chocks (they still do) but radioactive material? During the so called dark ages, people with mental problems and unusual abilities, were part of the society. Have we really come any further than the medieval Torgny
