Old castle in Marquartstein in upper Bavaria, unfortunately, it is privately owned, so no one can visit it. Photo taken at late sunset.

Nice shot. I had the same question about the church building.

I wonder if you showed up with a bottle of expensive wine they'd let you in for a tour?

Great post Juggernauter,
too few pics of this particular place are ever posted. Isn't that in South Bavaria? Are you on a traveling journey? Which direction are you headed Munich or Salzburg? Would like to see this one a little closer, but it is hard from the river...By the way did not the classical composer Strauss live here for a while? Love his music. Happy traveling and thanks for the view of the south! Frank |

@ [email protected] Good idea, i think i ring the bell today. :-)
@hkmp50 Yes it is in south bavaria in a small town named "Marquartstein" and i am not travelling, i live there, 15 km away. The Composer Strauss lived there (1894 to 1907), there is a house from him and he married in the small church behind the castel.

So here another two shots of the castle. The light was on but they where not at home, so i have to drink the bottle of wine alone. :-) I have pictures from the chapel too, they come later in architecture section.

Thanks for more pictures, Juggernauter...!
I like the angle you used to shoot the (draw?) bridge... ![]() Looks like you'll just have to keep showing up everyday with more wine... ![]() |

Also thanks Juggernauter, It looks like you took the time to go and try to get closer, thats pretty brave, Sorry to hear you had to drink by yourself, but if it was good wine you probably enjoyed it after the walk. I love old castles. We don't really have any relics like that here, sure we have psudo castles but not really any with the history of the ones you have there. I wish I could visit and take some pics of those structures myself but it looks like I will just have to rely on people like you who live in the area. I sure appreciate your posting them. Cheers!
