Default Cathedral in Freiburg

I took these pictures not meaning for them to have any real photographic quality, but when I looked at them on the computer, I really liked them.

Anyway, the picture is of a Cathedral in Freiburg Germany that I took while I was traveling there. A lot of Freibrug was bombed out in WWII, but this cathedral (and some of the surronding buildings) survived with small damage. And it has been under restoration for years and it never really has been finished.

The picture was taken with a Panasonic DMC-FZ10. The picture was taken at f4.6 and 1/500 of a second. The second one was taken at f5.6 and 1/400 of a second. For some odd reason I had it at ISO 100, when I could have done it at 50, I guess I didn't notice... Both were taken at full wideangle

I did a little touching up with Photoshop, though nothing that big.

So, which one do you like better (I personnally like the second one better). And tips for improvement for future pictures (in general).
And thoughts or comments welcome (just remember that I am a newbie with photography in general).

I agree that the second one is best. I see you're a newbie, but you should go a bit further and correct the tilting vertical line of the building. If you don't know how, take a look a my website...

The second shot is more attractive to me because the vertical composition heightens the grandeur of the cathedral.

While the first shot tends to flatten it out which detracts from the overall magnificence that the church tries to portray
