This shot has been taken in a church in Vieste.
I have been in doubt for a lot of time trying to find the best crop for this shot. Window on center, on the left, on the right, at the bottom....this is the version that convinced me most. Suggestions ? ![]() P.S. : a have applied a skew transformation to correct a certain inclination on the left. (as you can notice from the lighting on the wall the shot has not been taken in the perfect center !) |

Nice shot Sergio. Now I don't know how much proccesing you have done correcting the vertical line, but they need a bit more IMO.

As far as correction is concerned I have intentionaly avoided perpective correction in order to convey the sense of looking upward to it. By the way, soundengineer, I think that in an unconscious way this was the reason that led me to the current composition. Here's the original window before the correction : ![]() |

I hope you do not mind....but I made the crop how I saw it in my head, in order to explain...
I used the guides to determine equal distance on all sides of the photo to the window. It was very level actually....I checked and double checked...I think the eyes were a little misleading to the levelness of it. The misleading factor was the top left hand corner of the window...there was a mm of more black there which made the whole picture seem to tip.. I also made the arch of the window a little more distinct. What do you think? ![]() |

I'm not a photographer but I have taken some pictures like those. Having the frame appear kind of makes the shot more interesting to look at. The transformation done by "Guest" makes it look odd. Keeping the original form makes it look more "natural" by giving you the impression of looking upward (which the original photographer mentioned also).
Just my opinion. |

Thanx Soudengineer and Guest for your suggestion and for your images.
Yes, maybe a little highlight of the surrounding frame would be good, but not too much. Attention in my intention was set to the window, and, as luisr highlighted, to the impression of looking forward. I liked the black part below because it leads to the light in the higher part. Quote:
The reason for the oddness is that the left line leans leftwards. |
