The Essex bridge is an ancient footbridge connecting the village of Great Haywood with the Shugborough Estate, former home of the late Lord Lichfield, one of the world's most famous photographers. Staffordshire, England.

... and interesting to think that JRR Tolkien walked across this bridge. When on the bridge, you can see the confluence of the two rivers Sow and Trent. It leads from the village of Great Haywood to the Shugborough estate. In Tolkien's story 'The Tale of the Sun and the Moon', the village on Tavrobel has a bridge where the rivers Gruir and Afros meet. Shugborough Hall (with its 80 chimneys) is probably the inspiration for the 'House of a Hundred Chimneys', the home of the gnome, Gilfanon.
Oh, nice picture by the way. |
