This bridge crosses Abiqua Creek on county road 647 about 1.5 miles northwest of Silverton, Oregon. Abiqua Creek is the boundary between Silverton and Mount Angel. During the early 20th century, when Silverton was a "dry" town, Mount Angel was "wet". A retailliquoroutlet was set up at the north end of the bridge in order to supply gallons of white lightning to needy residents of Silverton. And so the bridge was named.

Hi Bill,
Great shot. The next time you're in Silverton, do some poking around downtown. There is a small covered bridge in the park in the center of town. It is not a historic bridge and is for pedestrians only but worth seeing nonetheless.

Thanks fot the tip, Cal. I'll have to stop and check it out. I plan to go to Scio soon to shoot the Crawfordsville, Shimanek, Hannah and Larwood bridges. May go this weekend if tomorrows storm blows this persistant fog out of here. There are two small "non historic" bridges in Sweet Home. They were built by the high school shop classes of Mr Dahlenberg, who was instrumental in saving the Weddle Bridge from demolition. Here's an artistic (?) rendering of a photo of the Dahlenberg Bridge taken from the Weddle Bridge, both in Sankey Park, Sweet Home Oregon.
