Springfield, Illinois is the site of the very impressive Abraham Lincoln tomb. On the same grounds is the State War Memorial, with several statues and monuments. It is also the site of a large cemetery which is beautifully landscaped. This time of year everything is in bloom. Not too far from the Lincoln tomb is the tomb of former governor John Riley Tanner, who served from 1897 until 1901.

Not really, Ordo. I was there mainly to see the Lincon tomb and just happened to notice this while driving by on the road to that site.

you were in Springfield? that is only about 40 minutes from the farm i grew up in.
and the sad part, I have never been to the tomb. a very interesting bit of architecture, it is almost ancient in appearance with the rough cuts and such. well captured. |

The tomb looks like a Fllintstone version of fine Greek architecture. So Lincoln doesnt reside in this tomb?

Now that you mention it, Bynx, it does resemble a Flintstone building. Given the crazy political climate that has existed in Illinois for many years, perhaps its appropriate that a former governor would be buried in such a strange tomb And, no, this is not the Lincoln tomb. I'll post that later.
