Here is what the manual says:
Standard brightness is decreased to approximately 1/8 when the ND filter is on. For example, if the appropriate aperture value is 5.6, it becomes 2 when the ND filter is on. I will say that it makes a significant difference. I was taking just some quick snaps of some objects (semi-reflective) up close and with the built-in flash. The difference went from "tough to see" to "no question". I am going to be getting a D70 once it comes in (I have a pretty hefty deposit down) and will most likely sell my G3, my 420EX Speedlite, and spare battery. I really need to also unload my Rebel G and Tamron lens. My wife has a Digital Elph S230 that I can use as a backup if I have to. |

i have a question....do you have any experience with "B&W" ND filters (not b&w...the company lol)......they have some for 20-40 dollars....is that too cheap to be good? these prices are from B&H photo.....
i'd like to get one that is 1.8 (lol each company marks them differently.....) but that makes a 6 stop difference i think...wait....maybe 3..... but that would be enough....i don't think it is "multicoated"...so does that mean it is cheap? |

I'm not to much help on that. I'm just starting to figure some of that out myself. I am pretty much going to stay with the names I am familiar with.

By simply twisting the filter ring of the Vari-ND, you can vary the density from 1.5 stops up to 10 stops. They come in 52, 58, 62, 67, 72, and 77mm ring mount sizes, but are $340 each.
