It's raining in NYC today (and the whole weekend, too) so my noontime photo-walk was confined to indoors. I shot inside the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue. All pics processed with DPHDR. I shot 8 exposures for #2 to bring up the lightbulb filaments.

Great series VV. If you can shoot Raw why not do one with people who would be moving between shots? Then you just have to make your HDR from a single shot.

Great picks. Loving #3, #4 and #6.
Blue colors somewhat over the top, though. |

I'm beginning to lean to the belief that RAW only gives you one "real" f stop of play (in either direction). So while useful to use for HDR, it's also limited. Dave |

Thank you all, for your comments and compliments!
Bynx, I forgot I can shoot raw -- I'll remember to turn it on next time around. shoturtle, it's tricky to preserve contrast because I think HDR balances it all out but fortunately the lighting in the library is not at all difficult to work with (except you'd most definitely need a tripod -- I used ledges and tabletops and a remote shutter release cable). Yes, maggo85, there is something to shoot in the building just about everywhere you look -- even empty corridors. ![]() Ordo, I didn't notice the blue. I white-balanced #4 which was very yellowish so I'm just guessing it caused the blue to stand out. Dave, yes I think I would need to shoot multiple exposures to achieve #2 -- the view outside the window was very bright, too. Hopefully I wouldn't need multiple exposures when shooting pictures with people. Thanks, Torgny and jelpee for your very kind comments ![]() |

I explored the library some more and can't help but share images of it. Everywhere I look seems a photo waiting to be taken.
Some research rooms were closed -- either open only on certain days or perhaps by appointment. But the doors have glass windows that let you see inside. I took a picture of one such room -- the "Map Room". NYPL (New York Public Library) as the name might suggest is neither run by the city nor the state. It is "privately-managed" and funded by philanthropists "for the public good". (source:wikipedia.org) #7. ![]() http://i40.tinypic.com/15ytev9.jpg #8.
