Default Night Time pt. 2

I'm starting to get the hang of this, I read where you should try to do these while there is still a faint glow in the sky after sunset so the roof line stands out from the sky. It really made a difference.

Can someone give me a tip on controlling highlights on a shot like this?

After you have made this exposure, make another one that covers the lights only. Then do an HDR.
