![]() ![]() This is one of the earliest structures in Sabula, Iowa. It's being renovated now. Many of the older buildings were allowed to decay and were lost, but with increased tourism, many are now surviving as Bed and Breakfast establishments. |

Another old house converted to Bed and Breakfast
![]() Around the turn of the century, a popular remodeling idea was to build an enclosed porch onto the front of the house. It was a place where people sat in the cool of the evening, and informally enterained friends. |

![]() ![]() This old house, built in 1865, hasn't been kept up very well. I'm hoping someone will restore it. |

What I like most is your work with distorsion and angles and perspective.
How does the camera see compared to the human eyes. And how does the human eyes see. Here we have houses after rain wich gives a very natural saturation. They are houses; nothing less, perhaps something more "and in the evening the houses smoked their pipes, sorry, chimneys" Sorry if I´m over-doing this reply but I often sit for hours with pictures of buildings and alike, trying to find out the best way to present /T |

![]() ![]() The limestone house with the red masonry porch is supposedly an exact copy of the immigrant's former home in Germany. The limestone part dates back to just after the Civil War. |

![]() ![]() This one was always referred to as "the castle." Now a bed and breakfast. Thanks to both of you for your kind responses. These, beingfamiliar things to me as a child, have an emotional significanceto me that can't be explained. I had no idea how others would see them. I visitedmy childhoodhome, but ithad been badly maintained, andIdidn't take a shot of it; too painful a reminder that things change over time. |
