I just happened upon this unusual marker in the oldest section of our local cemetary.

Striking ! I can't help but wonder at the story behind the monument. You said it was in the oldest part of the cemetery. Any idea when it was erected?
Nice job, Bob. Paul |

There's an old 'sea story' about how, when a sailor retires from the sea, he walks inland dragging an anchor, and when someone finally stops him and asks what that is he's dragging, that's where he'll settle down and live out the rest of his days, safe in the knowledge that the sea is too far away to be a threat to him.
bhammitt, how far inland did this old sailor get? |

Thank you all! I am going to visit this grave again this weekend and take more detailed photos. The name of the cemetary is Crown Point and is located 50 milesnorth of Indianapolis, Indiana. TCav, that is a very cool old sea story, I like that very much! I have my own sailor, my oldest son is in the Coast Guard, I will share this story with him.

I tried looking up Huff on www.findagrave.com using only the last name. I will give it another shot now that I have more details.
