For someone who knew Texas in the 1960s, it's a bit of a shock to find that both Martin Luther King Jr. and Ceasar Chavez have statues at UT.

The buildings and sculptures altogether give afeel of tranquilty and elegance...to be associated with the South! Btw, I had the opportunity to learn about Ceasar Chavez whose dedication his life to farm labourers really moved me! Oh, another Chavez for me to appreciate; ) Btw, I should also say the reddish building appearing through the treesin the last picture appeals to me in many ways!
A trip I'd love to join ![]() |

Nice series. I like the football stadium and the red building the best.

Thank you all. The University of Texas and the City of Austin are considerably more liberal than Texas as a whole, hence the statues. A healthy thing, I think.
I really like your new avatar, Caryl. |

There are several other statues on campus of American and Texas politicians. Heck, there's one of George Washington on the South Mall facing the Texas Capitol. The red home is the Littlefield House. The owner donated most of the land that UT sits on and he also donated the money that built the fountain in the second picture. When he died, he willed the home to UT for use as a meeting place. Now it's a museum of sorts and a place for the UT Chancellor to entertain on occasion. |
