Established in 1776, it is called the Jewel of the Missions. Located between Los Angeles and San Diego it attracts tens of thousands of visitors. A highlight is the "return of the swallows" in mid-March each year.

A plaque on the wall commemorates a visit by Richard and Pat Nixon, who ceremoniously rang these old church bells.

Many Catholic visitors take time to light a candle in this smaller room off the chapel.

Should be an outstanding experience to be in the oldest building in California still in use, Walter! Oh, almost felt the flavour of California wine : )
