I'm new to architectural photos, mainly because I live in a pretty architecturally uninteresting town. I'd like to know more about what works and what doesn't.

Last week while walking around Scotty's Castle in Death Valley NP I found a few patterns that I thought were interesting. Would this shot be more interesting if the lighting were different of if it were cropped differently?

TIA

This is a nice photo. I like it.

If the architecturally uninteresting town you are referring to is Bend, OR, I beg to differ with you. I spent a weekend in Bend earlier this summer and found tons of architecture to photograph. Take a good look around the Old Mill District. There are many different kinds of architecture there, both old and new. There are numerous non-architechtural photo opportunities, also.

Good luck.

This is a nice shot. There is a very interesting play of shadows on the inner door, and the scene outside draws us toward it. This shot is both intimate and scenic. Nicely done.

Tom, on Point Pelee, Canada

I guess I'll have to develop an appreciation for the local architecture. It's a shame the old crane shed was torn down.

Lot's of great landscapes around here which I'll be focusing on.
