I just bought the FZ20. I am now looking to buy a spare battery. I found this battery searching through pricegrabber. What are they thinking? $299.95 for a battery? My first thought was that this couldn't be right, but it is. What a rip off! I wonder if they have ever sold any?

You can buy the battery direct from the Panasonic website for $77.95. Lots of cheaper versions out there, but read the fine print - may be a generic replacement. The generic may work OK, but if it blows up or leaks, the camera warranty may be void.

You may also want to consider a DPS 9000 external battery.

It is Lithium based and lasts for hours AND will work with almost all dig cams

They are occasionally for sale on Ebay or just Froogle for them

Advantages of the DPS 9000:

Works with almost all dig cams! NOT proprietary.

Lithium so not as sensitive to cold.

Can be recharged in car or home (chargers included).

Mounts on tripod screw but batt also has tripod screw so you can still mount cam on tripod.

Cost ~ $45.

Alternatively, for the Panasonic, the Lenmar brand has a good rep and is available online.

Just bought a fz20 battery from http://www.batterybarn.com/cgas002.htm. It's 7.2V, and 800 mAh (greater than Panasonic's), which means it'll last longer. In testing it, I forced it to discharge by continually taking a forced flash picture, and got 135 pictures before the camera shut off. With original Panasonic battery, I got 125 pictures without using the flash. It fits fine into camera, a very slightly loose fit in recharger, but it holds fine when plugs in to the wall outlet. Paid $37.95 with no tax or shipping. Good luck!
