Default Generic Batteries vs. Brand Name Ones

Does anyone know if there is a real difference between the original battery like the Nikon EN-EL1 and the generics like the Lenmar version? Sometimes the specs are different but many people I have spoken with say there really is no difference. I am most concerned about camera "on" time and getting the most out of a battery. Is it work the almost double price to get a Nikon battery vs a Lenmar?

I don't know, but the Power 2000 brand I just received when I ordered a spare battery for my Nikon 4500 is rated at 800mAh, while the Nikon battery that comes with the camera is rated at 650mAh. I guess that is good.
