Just bought a W1 yesterday and so far, am extremely happy with results !

My question: the manual specifically states that lithiums are not recommended for the W1 . Any ideas on why ? And do you think its risky to use lithiums? I do a lot of backpacking and lithiums are ideal for other devices...radios/headlamps/etc because they are powerful/have a very long shelf life/are not affected by cold as much as other types, and very lightweight.

Many digicam makers warn against using photo lithium AA cells because they can get quite warm (hot) when continuously discharged at a high drain rate. Digicams when left on for long periods of timerunning the color LCD can get quite warm with any batteries in them but lithiums can get even hotter. Heat is the enemy of electronics, especially when encased in plastic bodies that don't dissapate heat well.
