Well I got a nikon d50 and it came with an extra battery 1700mAh ( or whatever the letters are ) thing is, i've yet to use it, because I always run out of memory, than battery, I can easily shoot 1000+ on a single charge ( using the original EN-EL3a).
So the thing is, i've yet to use my spare battery, in fact, i've not used it at all, so I guess my question would be how to alternate usage between both batteries or any suggestions?

Hello Maudit,

It could be that you could resolve your problem by getting more memory...

I would suggest you swap batteries after 400 - 600 shots. You will get more cycle life from your Li-Ion batteries if you don't run them completely down and instead, recharge often.

Hi, thanks for the advice, didn't quite think of that, the only problem I see is one is a higher capacity one, so basically it would retain more charge after swapping it, would that reduce it's life?

Hello Maudit,

No problem. With Li-Ion, frequent recharging = longer life.

Charge them both fully.

Place one in the camera & use. When finished, remove & fit the second battery and recharge the first.

Repeat process ad infinitum.

Obviously if the lower capacity battery discharges during the shoot, then fit the spare & recharge both.
