hi

i'm looking for a charger that has the following characteristics:

1) smart charger/trickle charge

2) 4 independent circuits

i plan to keep a set of batteries in the charger at all times. i have maha 204 right now but i don't like having to charge in pairs at a time. i know the maha 401 does what i want, but it's pricey. i went to walmart and they had tons of energizer and duracell chargers, but reading the instructions on the back didn't say if i had to charge 2 at a time, or it they're smart chargers.

so does anyone know of a charger model cheaper than maha 401 that fulfills my needs?

Take a look at the Nexcell NC-60FC...sounds like just what you need, especially the sleep and wake-up mode trickle charge feature.

Here's a link:

I haven't tried the Nexcell charger, but I have been using their batteries in my camera for quite a while, and they are excellent. Let us know how it works out.

I've used a La Cross Technology AlphaPower Model BC-900 charger for about a year. During this time I've charged over 70 AA/AAA batteries with about 5 charge cycles for each battery. It will revert to a trickle charge when the battery is charged.

It has various milliamp charge rates, will provide voltage when fully charged, has a refresh cycle plus more.

This link will take you the the La Cross web site for this charger. My recall is that I paid slightly less than $50 for the charger and I believe it was offered for less since I purchased mine.

Bob,

The OP felt the Maha 401 was pricey (<$40 @ Thomas Dist.), and was looking for something cheaper...

Since you're on a budget, have a look at some of these chargers. One of them may suit your needs. I've been using the 401FS for about 5 months now, it's a great charger.
