I've 3 sets of NiMH batteries (all uniross):

Set 1 - 4 x 2300 mAh (5 years old)
Set 2 - 4 x 2500 mAh (3 years old)
Set 3 - 4 x 2700 mAh (2 years old)

I've noticed recently that sets 2 & 3 hardly last anytime in the camera even after a new charge. Whereas Set1 the oldest set give good life.

I've tried numerous charge/recondition cycles on the charger on sets 2 & 3, but they don't seem to improve.

when newly charged Sets 2 & 3 measure about 1.4V, but after one day not being used they measure 1.3V and after a few days are down to around 1V.

Set 1 seems much more stable and even after a couple of weeks still hold a charge of >1.3V.

So are my batteries faulty? If so why has this happened?

Set 1 have had far more use that the other two, yet thay are still going strong.
The batteries don't get heavy use, mainly on vacations etc over about 5/6 weeks of the year, could this be the problem, when they are left unused for periods of time?

Hello Hammer,

There are know issues with the 2500 mAh cells. They seem to develop higher rates of self discharge after they have been used for awhile.

I am not sure what is going on with your 2700 mAh cells. Higher capacity cells seem to have a higher self discharge rate, but I have not seen it as being drastic.

It appears that your fault is that you used your cells...:-)

If you never used them, they would probably still be OK...
