Default battery charging noob question

So I have a bunch of all-battery.com 2600mAh batteries that never held their charge for more than a couple months. I recently found out that the Energizer charger I'm using (Model CHM4AA) is rated for 1700mAh batteries only. Any batteries above, it's going to undercharge. So I went back to the moving boxes and fished out a Sony BCG-34HRMD. Appearantly it's a better charger? Would it be able to fully charge the 2600mAh batteries?

Thanks for any help in advance

Standard Ni-MH cells don't hold their charge very well. Whatever charger you have, you should charge up the ones you have just before you want to use them. You'll have to get more expensive special 'low self discharge' ones if you wish them to hold their charge for very long. There are various brands, including 'Eneloop' and 'Hybrio'. They are much better, but still by no means perfect.

My mother-in-law got so frustrated with two of mine I'd lent her that she binned them, despite knowing that they were rechargeables.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ni-mh_battery#Self-discharge.

That whole article is well worth reading carefully.
