Default Minolta A1 Battery

So I am looking at the Minolta Dimage A1. I currently have an Olympus C2100UZ that uses AAs. So I have several sets of rechargables. Should I order a second battery for the A1 when I get it so I have a back-up? How long does the battery last that is in it? And are their cheaper alternatives for replacement batteries than the $100+ lion from Minolta. Are there third party batteries or some other options?

Thanks

How about the optional BP-400 grip which can hold two Li-ion packs or 6 AA batteries?

i have an A1 and yes i did get a BU NP400 battery for it. the only thing that stopped me from getting thr BP400(which would allow for the use of either 2 NP400 batts or 6 Nimh batteries) was the size increase of the camera. i already own one beast. the grip while adding a vertical shutter release(which is great) increased the overall size of the camera by almost 30%.

i bought my Minolta NP400 for $46.

the A1 is more efficient then the previous models. i regularly can get over 200+ shots off 30% built in flash use with the monitor on back off and only used to revie important images. haven't taken a battery to dead yet either.

Default A1 Battery

So where do you get the $46 battery? Has anyone found the grip for less than $130? I like the idea of having a back-up plan that allows me to buy AAs to get out of a bind.
