Default help w/ powerex maha MH-C204F charger

hello,
i just bought some rechargeable batteries and a charger for my digital camera. i have a question.

i got some nexcell NiMH 1800mAh AA size batteries, and the powerex maha MH-C204F rapid charger and conditioner. this is the first time i'm using the batteries, and so i want to drain them fully and then charge them up again after each use for the first few times.

now, when i put the batteries in, the LED comes on and is a solid red color. if i push the little buttons next to it, it will start flashing orange. do i want them red or orange? which is the conditioning mode, and which is chargeing? i have had the flashing orange for a few hours now... is this right? or should i push the buttons to make them solid red? please help. thanks everyone...

flashing is draining/conditioning cycle. i think you might want to give them a charge first though(solid red then turns green). do yourself a favor and either remove the clear covers or leave them open. heat build up.

The Maha MH-C204F rapid charger is one of the few that only do dV (ie. no temperature):

... but you do need to leave the lid open for the heat build up as they recommended.

Default How Long?

Hey all,
I was wondering how long it should take to charge a set of powerex 1800's with the c204. I just got it, and today, it took about 7 hours to charge them fully. Thanks.

if they were new just out of the package it's a fair amount for a first charge.

Default thanks guys..

yes, i kept the clear lid open during the whole process. they were flashing to condition them, then they went solid red while chargeing, then solid green when they were done. thanks all.

Yes if you do a discharge cycle. A regular charge cycle should only be 120 mins or so if they're totally drained. That discharge cycle is really for the older NiCd type batteries. It will take about 2-3 charge - use - charge cycles before those batteries take a really full charge. The charger kicks off around 90-92% capacity and then goes into maintenance trickle.

Default help w/ powerex maha MH-C204F charger

I was told by my friend and by the folks at at Maha that "For Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries, conditioning is recommended once for every ten charges. " http://www.mahaenergy.com/support/te...&a/mhc204f.htm

What do you think??

Regards
