Default Battery-Panasonic FZ35

I am thinking about an FZ35 even though it's been replaced by the FZ40/100. I've read in at least two places that Panasonic was going to disallow the use of generic batteries, then they backed off but that could change in the future.

Does anyone know if they ever reached a point of disallowing the generics?

Thanks Will. I have the FZ28 but want to upgrade because of the supposed improvements in image stabilization and focusing speed. Do you have any comments about the camera you'd like to share?

I like the camera a lot, only two things I dislike, one is the auto mode,
the other is AVCHD Lite, both are issues that you can work around, it
can take awesome pictures, and it's well built, one of the best cameras
I have ever had.

Panasonic FZ100-- batteries?
I am thinking about buying the FZ100.
However, Amazon forums have a lot of information about batteries for the Panazonic FZ100, etc that makes me cautious about buying this or any other Panasonic camera.

Several people can't find spare batteries, several say a spare batery costs $80 to $100 with shipping, and several say the firmware upgrades to older cameras and new software in current cameras prevent using after-market or third -party generic batteries.

Anyone know what is happening? Is Panasonic trying to discourage everyone from buying their camera? I cannot and will not pay $80+ for a battery.

B&H has the Panasonic Battery for the FZ100 for $59.95...and $38.32 for the FZ 35.
They also have a Pearstone for the FZ 35 for $19.95.

I recently bought a FZ35 and also am looking for a backup battery. I have heard that the lenmar brand is pretty good aftermarket battery. Does anyone have experience with these? I can't afford a panasonic brand right now.
