Look on eBay, there are lots of folks selling generic BP-511 batteries over there.

I just bought a G5 (arrived today) and was thinking about buying a generic battery from Ebay. Are there any I should avoid? Are there any known problems with them? I've had problems with some generic batteries for other devices in the past, and don't want to waste my money.

Also, should I stay away from certain types of battery chargers?

Default g5 batteries

Hey Dani,
I have a G5 also. I bought a charger from Sterlingtek for $20 and batteries off of Ebay. I got 2 for $20. I use my camera to charge my Canon battery, and I use the charger for generic batteries, for warrenty reasons. I have had good luck with the generics although I cannot tell the brand, they just say made in China. These do not last aslong as the Canon brand, but they are a fraction of the price, a fair trade off.

Well, I decided to go for the Ebay battery/charger set. I read, on another message board, that a guy bought a battery/charger from Ebay and had good results from it.

Giro, I like your idea of using the camera to charge the Canon battery, and only charging the generic battery in the charger. I'll definitely be doing that.

Default pls read canons advice

thanks for your messages. canons website has recently spread a warning against commercially sold non canon li-batteries. what do you think about that? they say these low end batteries dont have "protection" for dg cams.
thanks.
