Has anyone thought about making an external power pack using available camcorder batteries (big capacity in those suckers) along with an aftermarket charger to provide power for their digital camera?

People also think about using racing car rechargeable pack, or assembling C or D rechargeable cells.

I thought about making or buying an external battery pack when I first bought my digicam but soon realized I really wouldn't need it. I can get about 550 shots off a single charge with my A75 in decent temps and when it really gets cold I'm going to switch over to film for outdoor shots - figure not worrying about condensation damage and how much battery power I have left makes film a better choice for me.

Sam

BTW- Gnomon that's a great looking BC

Swithching to film won't elliminate condensation damage. There isn't as much electronics to be damaged by moisture, but moisture between lens elements is likely to trash your lens. And there is a fair amount of electronics in most modern cameras. Just carry a plastic bag and don't even think about using your warm, moist breath to blow a snowflake off your lens.
