Default Question regarding canon's NB-5h battery pack

Hi guys!

I'm new at this forum, so hi everybody!

I have a question regarding the above mentioned battery ( or any other similar)

I reversed engeneered it and found that if I put some tape over the center contact of the battery it last much much time.

In my canon powershot S10 usually I can take 15pics with flash and lcd on.

blocking the center contact, I could take 130 pics with flash and lcd on without recharging!!!!

How is this possible? Does it damage the battery?

The camera is operating normally after all this pictures.

It seems to me that like this the battery would look like a 2cr5 battery, and these dont have center contacts.

If anyone has any coment /experience please share it with me.
