Hi all,

I just came across Canon's AC adapter kit (ACK900) for the SD500 (probably available for other models too, not sure). It looks like a pretty useful accessory. It replaces the normal battery with a dummy battery that attaches to a cord that you can plug into the wall. It's not clear from the picture I have of it, but I'm guessing that somewhere along the way, there's your standard a/c to d/c adapter to output d/c to the dummy battery.

Here are my questions:

1) Has anyone used this or a similar device? Was it effective?

2) What really interests me about this device is modifying it to accept AA batteries. How feasible do you think it would be to replace the a/c to d/c converter with a battery pack and appropriate circuitry for the proper voltage? Has anyone done this?

This might resolve the issue of proprietary vs. AAs for emergency use.
