While traveling to Paducah, KY this weekend I picked up an 8 pack of the Energizer 2500AA cells for $17.84 before tax. Awesome deal, that was their normal price too. If anybody lives in the area this would be the place to buy them. Thomas distributing is $10 something a 4 pack before shipping.

Actually, I think it's better to just buy them (in sets) as you need them. Some of the "deals" are older batteries that the distributors mark-down to clear stock. Unless you plan to keep and "maintain" all the batteries, one extra set of NiMH and a set of emergency alkalines is all I've ever carried.

If you like the deals, leave the batteries in the package (uncharged) until needed. Store them at room temperature. If you charge them, you'll have to "work" them to keep from degrading beyond a "bargin".
