The IBM microdrive will consume more current for sure! That's why it's also a good idea to get a camera that can use cheap and readily available power sources such as AA NiMh rechargeable if you plan on using the microdrive...

From memory I think it's twice as much. BUT it's 'peak current' whilst it's writing/reading and it does that very fast. If you think about it, most of the time you are composing the shot through the EVF or lcd, or are using flash. So whilst a microdrive adds some overhead, unless you're doing a lot of pre-view, moving from say 1600mAh to 2000mAh NiMh batts should do the trick.

I would suggesting reading around on the D100/D1/D1x/D1h forums here. I'm sure you'll find lots of posts about batter problems and suggestions.

Personally, I don't own any of these cameras, so I can only say what I've read (and that is trusting my memory!)

The D100 has good battery life. People seem very happy with it (and if you add the optional grip & batter holder, it's batter life is "endless" as some people put it. Very long indeed.)

The D1x/D1h story is completely different. I've heard people talk about selling their cameras because the battery life is so low. We are talking about 500+ pictures difference. I believe it's because of the type of battery Nikon chose for each camera.

But if you want an answer which is guarenteed to be more correct, check out that other forum. But I'd read old posts first, because I'm *sure* this issue/question has come up before.
