FYI...

I just received today from Amazon (April 7, 2006) a LaCrosseBC-900 charger and its running version 32 of the software. I called LaCrosseand asked about 32 vs. 33.

Let me say it this way. If I had not read the earlier post about the issues and knew what to ask about, the LaCrossesupport person on the phone was not about to tell me anything!!! In fact after I mentioned the above, she said 32 was equal to 33 and there were no issues. But, she added, if I was concerned I could return the5 minuteold unit for an exchange (I had to pay shipping).

Not sure if it's going back to Amazon or LaCrosse?

I have some problem with this charger so not sure whether it happens to some of you here. My La Crosse BC-900 Charger don't allow me to charge/discharge 4 battery at one go and the screen will keep blinking whenever I put 4 battery in the charger. Only when I remove 1 battery then the screen switch back to stable and start to function. I guess it's the fault of the charger or any issue I had missed out? :?

Hi Bob, interesting that your BC-900 came with the V32 firmware. I would have thought that the V32 would have been sold out by now or recalled if there was a problem. I am interested in buying the BC-900 also and would want to get the newer firmware. How were you able to determine yours had the V32 firmware? Is it noted on the outside of the package so one will know what version he is getting before opening the package?

Thanks, Allen

Hello Bob,

I am using V32 and have had no problems at all. It is rumored that the maximum temperature cut off was lowered in V33, but that has not been confirmed. There is a way to get a coded display that can be translated to battery temperature on V33, but I don't know the exact details of how to get that information.

In function, V32 and V33 operate exactly the same and have the same features.

Hello Allen,

The version is displayed (for a short duration) when you first plug the charger in. You can not tell by looking at the box or the charger.

The version number is not on the package and only appears on the screen when the unit is first turned on.

Thanks guys. I thought that might be the situation. I just ordered the Maha C204W kit with the Sanyo batteries and a DC to AC converter from Thomas Dist. I am still interested in the BC-900 but will wait until I am convinced all is well with it. My current needs are mostly for when I travel so the 100-240VAC and 50-60Hz is very improtant and both have this along with size.

My observation is that BC-900 chargers that come in a cardboard box have v33 firmware. The BC-900 chargers that come in a blister pack have v32 firmware.

Anyone seen anything to the contrary (that is, cardboard box with v32 or blister pack with v33)?

FYI

I ordered my BC-900 from Thomas Distributing on Mar. 23, 2006 and have the 33v.

I'm very happy with it and it has been in constant use 24/7 since I got it.

As to the issue of V32 vs. V33, I offer the following response from La Crosse Support Dept dated 6/12/06.....for whatever it may be worth:

The only way to tell the version number of the station is to turn it on, the version number flashes for a moment when the station is turned on. The packaging is not related to the version number, as both versions were shipped in boxes and plastic. There is no difference in the functioning between the versions, the only difference is when they were manufactured.
