I shot these in November, when (I think) I was looking for 'Natural Letters'.
This is a cropped single frame, resized only, so how the clouds cloned themselves so accurately I cannot imagine. I've included the top half, because it shows signs of a similar formation past or developing. I suspect it's a mixture of natural clouds & contrails, with successive planes following similar routes. |

Alan, I think you can blame some big jet airplanes for those formations. In this case, I think airplanes flew right through the middle of the small circular cloud in the center of the photo causing it to break up. The vertical "clouds" at the bottom are contrails and I think the pattern at the top is the same contrails but mostly dispersed.

This is an in-camera 3-shot panorama,5 minutes apart from the image above,to show what a bizarre collection of shapes the planes & clouds were making that day.

Nice shots, I usually don't like contrails in my pictures but these added to our shots. Hey, I tell people how to put airplanes together all day long, the last thing I usually want to see out of work is another plane.:?:G

Alan,
Your cloud formation brought these lines to memory: I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Judy Collins, "From Both sides now." |
