I hope that this meets the criteria for the challenge. It is both versions of the challenge, there is no manipulation other than the usual white balance, curves, unsharp mask and etc. that I perform. I tried to focus, with a long lens, on a distant moth as it flew over a pond near sunset.

Thats an amazing shot philby. But in my opinion it doesnt meet the challenge at all. There is no single color but two. So you won't win the prize. However, I come to Steves to see good photos and I consider this one good one so Im glad you posted it.

Philby,
At first like Bynx I was puzzled exactly what this was all about. Then I noticed the bird in the upper right. This added immeasurably to the overall impact of the photo. However, my fist reaction still stands - there is no single dominant color. The medley of colors however, is strikingly like an impressionist rendition of the woods with a bird floating by. That I find very attractive. Thanks for submitting. Aloha |

If you have ever used Moth Balls for storing your clothing ..... well they come from this species of moth.

I'm not sure what Bynx does with moths but this one was less that 2 inches across and greater than two hundred feet away. It was flitting around fairly quickly. I attribute the shot to the fast focusing ability of the lens, Cannon 400mm F5.6 L.
