Red is a color that is very easy to over expose.

Painting is an additive art. The artist adds to the canvas until they stop with their version of reality. Digital photography is subtractive art. First we throw away 90 percent of reality then remove what is left bit by bit until we have only the reality we wish to show. Flickr is like fun. PPG is like work. You're ooh so right. Dark reds gives us the heebie jeebies sometimes when it comes to exposure.

Red has been a problem for cameras clear back in the day! In the days of film, it was the film that was at fault. The dyes involved with red were the weakest in the emulsion. Now that we are in the digital age, I notice that there is still problems with reds, probably for similar reasons.

Nice shot. I wonder if a polarizer would have minimized the light reflection on the leaves for a more natural look...

Oh a polarizer would help but not using a ring flash diffuser like I used here would help a lot more. I was playing with the diffuser to see what I could get. As the challenge was dark I went out early in the morning between raining (we get that a lot here) to take the photo. Because of the rain I did not have a lot of time to go and get my polarizer. If everything had not been so wet it would not have been so reflective. It is a look that has its pluses and minuses. Here is a different look with a different technique.
