Captured this a year ago on a canoe trip along the French river, I spent the rest of the trip just waiting to get home to see it on a big screen

Beautiful! You were lucky you made it home it looks like.
There's a report of someone being hit by lightening yesterday afternoon on a hiking trail by a local lake. He didn't make it. His wife did survive. The storm came up suddenly. Scary because I was about 20 miles away on a different lake when I heard the thunder. Patty |

That's a very cool shot. You are very lucky to have captured the strike. I have found the timing of such a shot is a real hit or miss affair. In my case mostly miss.
Nicely done. Steve |

Great shot. That takes a lot of patience.

Thanks everyone!
We've had quite a few electrical storms roll through our area in the past week. I had my camera pointed out my bedroom window and captured a lot of strikes. They don't look as nice as the one I've posted because of light pollution from the city, the sky has an orange tint to it. I did shoot RAW though so I guess if I took the time I could fix it |

Wow! Instead of waiting to get home and see the photo, I would think you would have been anxiously waiting to get home to avoid getting hit! Good work.

Wow that is an excellent capture.
How is it done? I can't see managing it with my P&S or with my companions dSLR. We kayak and canoe a lot, and being out on the water during a storm is something we definitely try to avoid. |
