Here are two streetcars operated by Tri-Met, Portland's public transportation system.

The first is the Vintage Trolley, a replica of trollies that operated in the mid 20th century. Tri-Met owns three of these cars and operates them on the light rail tracks in the downtown area on weekends.

The second is the modern version, the Portland Streetcar. It operates on its own tracks but connects with the light rail tracks in several locations.

For those of you familiar with the third rail type of power system used by subway systems, there are no live "hot" rails in the Tri-Met system. Instead, an overhead wire called a caternary is the hot connection carrying about 750 volts DC.
