Another Yellowstone picture, only this one is of the Upper Yellowstone Falls, from the overlook at the top. It was taken by my wonderful husband several years ago. For someone who's knowledge of a camera was where the on-off switch was, he did a great job using my second/back-up dSLR. He did eventually learn some more, but the technical aspects didn't particularly interest him. He just had fun taking pictures.

He sounds like me. Don't bother me with all that exotic technical stuff, I just wanna take pictures.
That's a very unusual perspective and given my fear of heights might not be one I would emulate. |

Some of my favorite pictures from our travels were his. He had a good eye, and we would look at things differently, he offering me a perspective that I had overlooked. It was a wonderful, unexpected bonus to our travels.

My wife is not a camera savvy by any stretch of imagination. However, she does have the eye for composition and if the camera cooperates, she often gets excellent results. This is a nice capture.

Thanks! He'd be pleased that some very good photographers liked it.

The camera and tech knowhow are secondary to a good eye!

Don't sell him short - he has taken some excellent shots. This is an interesting composition, even though it may not have been foreseen as such as things were moving so rapidly.

He said he had more or less planned it, he wanted both the water and the rainbow. I hadn't even considered trying this shot, don't know why not though. He was quite delighted to see it on the monitor, when I downloaded the pictures, as he hadn't been sure it would work.
While there are lots of reasons NOT to get a dSLR, not knowing what you are doing isn't necessarily a good one, if you are willing to learn. I would often use Dan as an example of why I don't think the feeling one isn't "ready" for a dSLR is a good enough reason to not get one, (assuming the person really wants one). And yes, he did take some really nice pictures over the past few years, many of them very creative. |
