While in Florida this past March, we had the good fortune to visit the Everglades. While there, we took a boat ride through the mangroves and main waterway going out to open water.
A pod of dolphins came to our boat and entertained us with their acrobatics in the wake of the boat. Here is one of my favorite captures of the entire trip. ![]()

Thank you both for taking the time to look and the time to comment. Much appreciated.

Zig - great photo! I went on a dolphin watch in Hilton Head this past summer. Gotta say your shot tops anything I came away with. Really great job!

Thank you Ordo and John,
John, I was very fortunate, in that, there appeared to be about 6 families of dolphin around the boat. Some of them were riding the waves created by the bow while others were riding the wake at the transom. People on both sides of the boat had ample opportunities to take a bunch of shots without crowding into one spot as the dolphins followed the boat for a good 15minutes. That day, I had a 50-200mm 2.8 lens on the camera as I thought I'd get some opportunities at shooting some Osprey. I had the right lens on at the right time. It was like shooting birds in flight-I must have taken 50-75 frames with about a dozen really good images. This one just happened to have everything come together. Zig

Very very impressive. Lovely capture - good timing, the fact there is a smaller and larger one just makes it GOLD! I'm glad you had the right lens there. I've seen a number of dolphins over the years (and thankfully as I live in Australia, there are quite a few around at the right places). However I have never been close to dolphins having the right camera / lens with me. (usually I've seen dolphins while with friends on an outing, and had a too short lens, or it was before my 'DLSR days'). Now I have the Canon 70-300mm L, hope to capture something in due course. Your photo is truly magnificent. Thanks for sharing. Paul |
