I combined a couple of things to get this effect. Working with an 18-50 f/2.8 Sigma and off-camera flash fitted with a fabric diffuser, I bounced the flash off the wood panel and softened the flash effect by stretching a clear plastic bowl cover over the lens and holding it on with a rubber band.
I think this technique can have some real possibilities for soft lit portraits...just don't have anyone handy willing to sit for me this evening, lol. Paul |

I found a "somewhat" cooperative subject who, if he didn't exactly pose for me, at least stayed still. Same filter and camera set-up...flash with diffuser off camera to the right...no wall to bounce off.

You obviously don't understand about cats. When you say "come" to a dog, if he/she is well trained he/she comes. When you you say "come" to a cat, he/she says "take a message, I'll get back to you!". The look on that cat's face says it all. He's not happy with you.
Both shots are a little dark but that creates a mood which comes through nicely. Good work. Cal |

Cal, don't be so quick to generalize the behavior of cats. I've trained all my cat to be very obedient. Really

Your homemakde filters have clearly created a mood. i'd love to see what a cooperative subject could do.
Cats...make them wait an hour for their breakfast and they are putty in your hands. |

Nice soft diffused glow using your homemade filter.
