Here's a shot I took in my back yard last July. I applied Photoscape's "Color Engraving" filter.
This looks really cool as a "box," but I didn't want to overdo that theme. Mike Edit 4/19/2010: I noticed this afternoon how much I disliked how the light-colored top of this photo blended in too much with the page background. I just created another picture (same photo) and added a border, which I think helps it to look better. Last edited by mike_1; Apr 19, 2010 at 6:55 PM. |

Stunning effect. I downloaded the box making software. It does a lot things in addition to the box. Nice tip. Thanks.

Thanks Mugmar and pboerger!
You're welcome, pboerger! Just passing on info that I think I got from this forum some time ago. I don't do much editing, but this is the main application I use when I do. And you can't beat "free." I just started playing around with Gimp, but that's pretty heavy-duty and will take some time and effort on my part, to say the least. Mike |

I, also, have downloaded the aforementioned program and created a couple of boxes. My biggest complaint is that the program doesn't use a standard windows interface. The controls, options, and commands are scattered all over the screen. I couldn't find a "save as" function and was afraid to do a save of my work for fear of overwriting the original image. I finally went out, made a working copy and then created my box again. I then did a save and found the save as. This is extremely non-standard. I'll work with it some more but will probably end up deleting it.

Cal, I can't agree more with you. It is very frustrating, to say the least. I'm sort of used to it, now, but at first I was going nuts. What's worse is when you click on "help," it usually brings up a list of what the program can do, but not how to do it. Sorry, but I am chuckling at your frustration because I have felt what you feel. No offense intended.

Looks like the kind of like painting with a pallet knife instead of a brush.
