Just Do It: A walk in the woods.

A good way to learn for the clueless - that's me.

Here's a shot I took last January at a place called Thatcher Woods. It borders part of the Des Plaines River and is only a few miles West of Chicago. This is a lowland area that floods fairly frequently. You'll see little ice shelves a few feet up on some of the trees. This is because the river flooded and then froze. As the water receded, pieces of ice stayed frozen to some of the trees.

First the original:

Here's my edit, compliments of Photoscape's "Region (Out of Focus) Filter - Pencil." I also brightened it up a bit.

My word that is effective Mike. I like the way it transitions from pencil sketch illustration to reality in the centre. The desaturation gives it a more 'mystical' feel.

Thanks, Bernice. It is an interesting effect. I don't think I'd hang it on my wall, though!

Thankfully that's not one of the criteria for this Challenge!!!

An interesting effect, indeed.

That is really cool Mike. It looks like one of those older half cartoon half real life movies.

That's what I was trying to think of last night when veiwing your picture.:o:)

Thanks, Walter, Mugmar and Calicajun. Hey, you're right, it does seem like one of those older movies, doesn't it?

I think this may be my magnum opus / opus magnum with this effect, though. I tried it on a few other pics that I like, but it didn't really work.

I have mixed feelings about this one. One side of me likes it and the other side does not. It is an interesting idea that might be the jumping off point for more complex work.

Thanks for your comments, Cal. I think we feel the same way about it. It was fun to play around with, but...
