Thank you very much for your kind comments. I found it quite gratifying using a variety of steps to showcase the innards of the waterlily. There have been several versions but this one was done along the lines described by Cal.
Created two layers with the smaller inner layer sharpened a tad and sauturated to a medium level to highlight the fiery core of the flower and bring out the details including some of the pollen.
This layer was then aligned and placed on top of the larger layer which as Cal pointed out was treated with a negative filter.
The whole thing was then merged and a small drop shadow frame added.
