I'll see what I can do playing in traffic later but 1st the low hanging fruit! Windowless bathroom, flashlight covered with pinholed foil, on a wire, swinging over camera.

Very, very impressive. Thanks for explaining your procedure so others may try to replicate. Looking forward to more of your "artwork"!

I really like the first one. It looks like something made from one of those old Etch-A-Sketch toys.

Its funny you said etch-a-sketch mugmar. That was my first name for it. However, what you and I are thinking of is Spirograph. Etch-a-sketch is the little red tv like box with two knobs that control the 'cursor' that removes the magnetic powder. Ive also seen a toy which had a pen suspended over a piece of paper. The pen was then free to move in any horizontal direction like a pendulum. But enough of toys. Great shot rmuir. Particularly the first one which is amazingly clear in its construction as compared to the chaos of the second shot.

You are correct Bynx, Spirograph is what I was meaning but my brain typed etch-a sketch. Oh well I guess that happens as we get older!!

I'm waiting for someone to snap their fingers so I can wake up. That looks like a perfect hypnotic object. Good work with the light painting.

Muir,
There's got to be a mathematical equation somewhere that describes these curves. Wonderful work. I'm surprised how effective your techinique is. A great example of low tech solution. Aloha |

Selvin, I suspect there's a whole host of equations involved, equations pertaining to pendulum movement and precession, geometric equations pertaining to the slicing of a cone by a flat surface, etc. It boggles my mind to think about it although I used to be pretty good at plain and solid geometry.
Oh! I think there are some trig and calculus involved, too. Cal |

Thanks everyone, trying this has been on my to-do list a long time - since reading about it somewhere. These challenges are great motivators to just do it, whatever it is.
I'd like to have seen how #1 played out past my cameras 15 sec. limit. |
