This is one of the shots I took last weekend at my uncle's funeral. It was an emotional weekend to be sure. Thanks to all who offered tips for that day. This was the bugler, well actually a trumpeter, who accompanied the Honor Guard. Bugler's have become rare at military funerals according to what I have been told. Too few people can play the instrument I guess.

Looks like you did very well with the photography. The second photo is particularly nice. Condolences on your uncle's loss, but it was obviously a moving service.

Both shots are good. The first one captures the mood very well. The expression on the horn blowers face says it all.

Thanks guys. I like the second one myself but could not manage to get that flare or whatever it is off of the bugler's jacket. You can see it start at his elbow and move to the right across causing everything to yellow there. I guess some time with the "clone" tool might fix that. As you may know I had been tasked with being the official photographer for the day at one point. Once I was relieved of that duty, I let my guard down. I wasn't in a very good spot to capture this, note the glares off of the visor of their covers and the rifleman's shoulder... I forgot about getting the sun at my back Bynx. I remembered that tip after all was said and done.
I have another shot that I will post which I think captures a rare display of emotion from the Honor Guard later today. |

I think the photos of this occasion are for the purpose of capturing the feelings and the event itself. Not for some hang on the wall shot. You have captured, to me, the feelings. In looking at the two pics, it occurred to me that it would have been nice to photograph the complete taps from beginning to end in a number of shots. Then assemble them and display each photo in sequence and long enough to actually play taps and create a very touching slideshow where one photo dissolves into the next. Just a thought, and of coures, an afterthought.
