Went to a re-enactment in '09 here in HB. On this shot I got down on ground level and shot upward toward these advancing Union troops. Two versions to show you. Here's the first:

The tones in #2 seem more period correct without being harsh. And is it me or does the second guy from the left look like Kevin Costner?

Neat shot. I think the second one looks more like a faded photograph, though my monitor makes the colors look a bit more saturated than I would expect of an old photograph. But I really like the first one, too, it's just quite different from the second one.

I think this shot would look great converted to sepia. The sepia treatment would help reinforce what the reenactment represents.

I think the Sepia treatment and the wider crop work real well with the scene.

Walter, I agree with the concensus, the stretched sepia is defninitely the way to go.
