Both are great subjects and both suffer from the same problem, shallow depth of field. As mentioned in the challenge description, to get good depth of field in macro shots, you need to stop the aperture down to the smallest value (largest f-stop) that is available in the lens and use shutter speed to control exposure. Don't try that handheld! The shutter speed will be much too slow.
