This is somewhat cryptic, but by noting the objects and their effects and placement, plus a little research, it should be guessable even by folk who've never heard of it.
The child star was acting in a 1961 film from a novel by her mother, a touching allegorical tale. Her father was also a big film star, and world-class versatile actor. Her parents were married for 64 years, and touchingly close to the end. She was married for several years to a hugely influential producer/director. |

The only movie I have which this could illustrate is The Whistle Blower and 80s movie with Michael Caine. I have to think more on this to fit your criteria.
Aaaah, I got it. I was thinking Redgrave so the movie must be Blowup. |

The contrast between the warm naivety of the the film I have in mind, and the oppressive drama of "Blowup", made only 5 years later,is quite remarkable. "Blowup", as you probably know, featured a full frontal Vanessa Redgrave, the first time such a sight hit British screens. Most shocking at the time. Thanks for the reminder about "The Whistle Blower", which I remember now I've looked it up. |

"Whistle Down The Wind" with Hayley Mills. Your clues helped me to find this one. The internet is a wonderful thing

The Wikipaedia entry for the film is well worth a look, folks, for the amusing plot and links to the remarkable Mills family of actors. |
