A pair of goldfinches showed up in my back yard yesterday. The female stuck around long enough for me to grab my camera. Heck, she even posed for me!

Outstanding shot. What's that she's sitting on, a wilted flower?

Very nice. I like the colors in the background and the pose of the bird.

The flower wasn't that wilted the other day. The goldfinches were tearing them apart! I don't know if they were eating the flowerrs or bugs. While I was shooting the female my wife came out and said "No wonder I don't have any flowers." The background is actually a chain link fence that has green slats in it. Some of the slats are missing which explains the diagonal lines of light and dark back there. |

Nice shot!
"The flower wasn't that wilted the other day. The goldfinches were tearing them apart! I don't know if they were eating the flowers or bugs." I make a special effort to attract goldfinches to my yard. They love flower seeds, particularly zinnias and black oil sunflower. They will take seeds from a feeder but vastly prefer live flowers and will pass up the feeder if flowers are present. They do tear the flowers apart of course but that's the price you pay. |
